Lost in the battle for Heglig, now devolved into a discussion of whether or not South Sudanese troops are withdrawing voluntarily or are being forced to withdraw either by Sudanese forces or by international pressure, is the question of whether or not Heglig, which South Sudan calls “Panthou”, should even belong to Sudan in the first place. Meanwhile, the international community seems far more concerned about Sudan’s sovereignty than about the lives of the hundreds of thousands living in communities threatened with ethnic cleansing and genocide by Sudan’s government which already committed genocide in Darfur!
