The government of Sudan insists it has retaken Heglig easily from South Sudan’s armed forces. Meanwhile the government of Sudan argues that this is not true at all, but that in fact it maintains control over Heglig and is going to withdraw in the next couple of days. Meanwhile, there is concern that the international community is not considering South Sudan’s claim to Heglig, which it considers to be disputed territory that may well belong to South Sudan. A letter published by the South Sudan News Agency signed by over 1,000 South Sudanese from around the world makes the argument that South Sudan is the victim of Sudanese aggression and that the international community needs to address that fact along with answering the question of just where the boundaries of the two nations should be.
